Break-even ACOS calculator

Up to what ACOS do ads pay for themselves on your product? Enter the figures for one unit, in the currency of your marketplace.

Break-even ACOS = profit before ads ÷ net price. Amazon Ads reports sales without VAT, so the calculation starts from the net price.

ACES — Ad Campaign Efficiency Score

ACOS tells you what a sale costs, not how many sales you get. ACES combines both: margin after ads and the number of orders. It is a metric I developed myself; chapter 3 of the book explains it in detail.

ACES = (break-even ACOS − ACOS) × ln(orders + 1) ÷ 10

  • Above 0: the campaign earns money after ad costs. The higher, the better it balances margin and volume.
  • Exactly 0: break-even.
  • Below 0: the campaign loses money.
  • A campaign without orders has no score — it gets a red flag instead.
  • Always compare periods of the same length, e.g. the last 30 days.

Updates

Amazon Ads changes fast. This is where I record changes that affect the book. Last checked: 26 October 2026.

  • — The platform is now called Amazon Ads Agent: the ads console and the former DSP in one place. Sponsored ads keep running. Source
  • Sponsored Display is now called “display ads” and Sponsored TV “streaming TV ads”. Existing campaigns keep running. Source
  • — Amazon DSP has become part of Amazon Ads Agent; its programmatic features live in DVA+, rolling out from late October 2026. Source
  • — The legacy sponsored ads and DVA reports are being shut down. Saved and scheduled reports and the historical data on those pages will be permanently deleted — export what you need before then. Source
  • — Reporting API v3 will be deprecated (replacement: Reporting v1). This affects tools and integrations. Source

Checklists
